Need Hood Alignment Help on 87 IROC

Hey!
Had to replace a fender that got crunched.
My hood has a very wide gap at the front on the drivers side and a tight gap at the rear on the drivers side.

I just replaced both hood supports and noticed a few spacers of some kind that fell out somewhere when I took the hood off to replace the fender.

Can anyone help me get it back straight again?

Thanks!

WC Edgar

Not with out being there. The "spacers" are body shims that fell out. You need to shim the hood where it needs it. Are you sure your front nose didn't get shifted from the impact?

Thanks,
No, the alignment was fine before I took the hood off.

You can get different thickness's of shims from parts stores if you need them.

Yeah they look kind of like upper control arm spacers on GM stuff.
With the hood being as I stated with a large gap on the front drivers side and a real tight gap on the rear drivers side where should I start?

Do you have a nice 1/8 to 1/4 gap on the other side? Move the hood over a little then, to your replaced fender. Make sure the front of the fender lines up with the nose and the rear lines up with the door. Now some aftermarket fenders are of poor quality and you may have to manipulate the fender a little to make it look decent.

Thanks,
On the passenger side the gaps are pretty much reversed from the drivers side.
Instead of tight in back and wide gap in front on driver's side it's medium tight in front and wide in the back on the passenger side.

Then the hood needs some adjustment. The shims then can be used if the hood needs to come up a little to make it even. This may help some; http://www.autobodystore.com/ms1.shtml
