Cowl vs Ram air hood

Here's the deal. I own an 84 Z28 and am going to have it painted soon. I'd like to make more room under the hood for future engine upgrades (383 monster). I also want to use a functional ram or cowl air induction system. I like the ram air idea better, you know, where there is the nice little tub around the carb blocking it off of the engine compartment so that the only air it gets is from the scoop.

Anyhow, I'm starting at ground zero. I'd really like a bolt on system, the body shop guy can make it look right for me.

How do the scoops that face the windshield work?
Any suggestions?

A ram Air set-up wouldn't be too bad, you'd just have to fabricate the box for the hood to air cleaner seal. I'd assume it'd be easier to accomplish on a carbed engine so you dont' have to worry about hte air sensors. For the cowl you'd want the same kind of thing. Those work by venting the turbulent flow of air coming over and around it through the hole in the back. The ram-air will give you more (and probably cooler) air and both, if fabricated correctly will allow you to utilize the stock air cleaner asssembly or an aftermarket one to draft more air in if you really want. Another route would be just ordering an aftermarket ram air setup that uses scoops under the car and has hoses running to the air box (like the H.O. setup but this way will get more air. This way will most likely be cheaper because designing the sealing box will be time consuming and costly.

You could fab just about anything you want, I have a carbed 84 and really like the way the cowl looks
