Hi, im am very anxiously waiting to get my car painted. Its an 88 camaro with the low spoiler on the rear hatch. Im getting close to it now, maybe a month or two away. Id like to get a factory high rise spoiler for it, but remembered that the 3rd brake light is in my spoiler. If I get the high rise spoiler it would leave me without a 3rd brake light. I dont really care, but i dont want to risk getting pulled over because of it. Can we still get pulled over for no 3rd brake light? I thought our cars may be old enough that it doesnt matter (not sure). I live in Charlotte, NC if it makes any difference.

I have found the spoiler on EBay for $134 in primer ready to go on and be painted with the car. I found an entire rear hatch with the spoiler and 3d brake light (missing, but i can alway buy one to hook it back up) for 140 but i had to email him about shipping. If he will ship it I will definetly buy it.

If he wont ship the entire hatch, can i buy the spoiler by itself, then install the new 3rd brake light on my existing hatch?? How difficult is this? Thanks!

I disabled the third brake light in my vette ten years ago because the bulbs kept blowing. I have never been pulled over for it. (And I live in California)

The one thing cops can be counted on, is not knowing the traffic code.

Lol and I live in Charlotte, we can just say the cops around here are usually too busy for common traffic stops lol. But still, id rather be safe than sorry! And if you at least have the 3rd light up, just not plugged in, thats different than completely missing it lol

I know theres no pigtail for the new 3rd brake light to plug into, so how would I go about wiring it in if i got it? Run a wire down to the existing connector on the current spoilers' light?

Now's a good time to intergrate an LED tbl into the wing!

When i put a TBL on my 84z spoiler i ran the + wire inside (yes inside) the the decklid, out the side & sandwiched it in the window frame, out the top & into the interior. From there i just found the brake light circuit from a schematic & spliced it on.

The ground wire i just bolted onto decklid, since its already grounded to the body.

I did an LED job on a little Toyota Paseo I commute in, worked fantastic. I had to cut open the brake light (Back then the entire light was an enclosed bulb) insert an LED strip and reseal the enclosure.

The bulbs they used in the 80's and 90's blow too easy and corrode. An LED update might be just the trick.

Yep, you'd have to run wiring.
