Any Suggestions-New seats
I've heard of people putting seats in from all kinds of different cars that look really good. I wanted to know what you guys have done?? I havn't made a trip to a junk yard yet. What would be my best bet as far as good price and looks?
Thanks

I was going to reupholster the seats but for the price the guy gave me to do it i'm better off buying some new seats that i like. I really like 4th gen seats also prelude seats look good (my girls car-if you were wondering where i came up with that one) I'm really interested what others might have done.

Hey Drew. I'm in the process of reupholstering my seats myself. Cost me about 200-250 in materials.
Learning to sew can suck though heheh.
Here's a pic of a seat I just finished. Let me know what you think.

Don't just look at Firebirds or Camaros!
I had a set of seats that I could never find in a Firebird or Camaro. They were one color in the "center", and a different color on the sides. They also had map pockets on the backs. (I found out later that they are Trans Am seats- cool!)
I was searching through junkyards, and came across a Pontiac 6000 Station Wagon S/E. I looked inside just for giggles, and saw MY seats!!
I had to do the following to put them in my car:
1. Removed the seats from the wagon
2. Removed my seats.
3. Flipped both sets over.
4. Transferred the steel "seat rails" from under my seats to under the 'Wagon's seats.
I also had two more steps to do, since the station wagon was a four door:
A. Transferred the "tilt-forward mechanism" from my seats onto the 'Wagon's seats.
B. Installed my seat-belt retainers (on the sides of the headrests) onto the 'Wagon's seats. The station wagon had no such retainers. I took a wild guess that the holes were under the fabric, and used a sharp sewing needle to "probe" under the fabric- yup! The holes were there! I was able to screw my seatbelt retainers into the side of the headrests.
Now, this should work for any mid-size GM car, especially the Cavailer, Pontaic 6000, etc. There's one thing you should check, and that's on Berettas/Grand Ams'/etc: Their seats do NOT "just" bolt to the floor of the car. They roll into rails, and those rails are bolted to the floor.
I have a sneaky suspicion though that the "base" of those seats will unbolt, and that our "rails" will bolt onto those seats. Know what I mean? Well if you don't, remove your passenger side seat and flip it over. You'll see four 10mm bolts that hold the seat rails to the underside of the seat. Now go into the junkyards, and if you find a hot set of seats, take one out and flip it over.
Good luck!

Actually it wasn't as hard as I expected. I didn't put the plastic "welt" along the seams like the original because that makes it much more difficult.
Thanx for the compliment though.
The hardest part is learning to sew. heheh. Once you get the hang of it it's easy though.

I can tell you for sure that '88 Grand Prix seats do not fit. I tried it for the heck of it before I sold my GP.

RCR, you unbolted the rails underneath the Grand Prix seats? Was the bolt pattern different than the one for the Firebird's seat rails?

For those of us who are unable to find interior pics on your site, can you post the pic/link here?

I have some seats that should get here Tuesday. I've got a 91 Firebird and the seats are out of a 96 Camaro, black leather. I can post some pics of them once I get them installed. Front seats and rear seats together cost me 300 bucks, I think thats a fairly good deal.

LordDragon...where did you get them from? How much are they costing you for shipping? Would you know how much it is to ship leather seats from a '00 TA from Texas to NY? I have the opportunity to buy dark gray leather seats from a 2000 TA w/15,000 miles on it for $350 for the whole set. The price sounds great. The only problem is that I dont know if i can trust the person, since I have never bought anything on line, especially from a private person. Also, I have the opportunity to buy gray seats from a '97 Firehawk that is in a local auto salvage. The seats are in perfect condition. They are for $300. These seats are ten minutes away from my house. Am I better off just getting the gray cloth, since I know what I am buying for sure? I really want black cloth, but I guess I can settle with gray. Also, does anybody know about getting seats dyed a different color? Because I was told that I could have the gray seats dyed black. Would this look good? Would they look cheap and a faded black? I would have them dyed professionally. Sorry this post is so long. But I need some help from the experts.Thanks.

Hey Jims. I did a search on www.car-part.com and found my seats. I started at the newest model year camaro and worked my way down until I found black leather. Turns out that it was a 96 that had them in it. I was told that they were in perfect condition and that if I wasnt satisfied I could return them. I'm getting the seat belts and mounting stuff also. Its costing me 300 for everything, and then 25 for them to have a truck bring it here. Neals Auto Parts is where I found them. Its in central IL and I'm in western IN. If I were you I'd go to car-part.com and search for the seats you want, you should be able to find them and then you can contact the place that has them. Another thing is, if you get the seats and they arent what you were lead to believe, you can get new pieces of the seats from a GM parts center, since they're 4th gen and still in production. Yes, it may cost more that way, but at least your seats will be perfect (if they turn out bad when you get them). Personally I'm willing to take the mans word for it that they're in perfect shape and if not I can always buy a new seat cover from GM. You mentioned dying your seats black, I havent ever heard of having this done and I wouldnt know if it would turn out well or not. But like I said earlier, you can buy a new seat cover from GM in the desired color. Also you have the option of going to a car place that specialized in trims, and have them do it. Good luck with the seats. Btw, sorry this post is so long too

Thanks lord dragon. I think I will get the gray cloth seats, since they will end up being cheaper and since I will know exactly what I am buying. Then I will go get the black covers from GM in black. Are these covers cheap looking? Are they the actual ones that they put on the new cars, where I will need to take off the gray cover and replace them with the black? Thanks for all your help, I appreciate it. I just want my interior to look really nice so that I can take off my T-tops and not be embarrassed...lol.
