Gap on the hatch

I think just about every F-body ive seen has an overlap where the rear lid sticks out. I was told that if i loosen the hing/glass bolts with the hydrolics disconected its posible to 'slide' the glass back up to eliminate the anoying gap. I did that but it didnt make as much of a differnce as i had hoped. Could it be that the hinges them selves are worn and stretched out. What can I do to fix this?
