I have an 89 RS and want to put in a speedometer with a higher reading. Is it the Z28's that came with 145 speedo. If so Can i change mine over to that. what do I need? Do I just have to pull one out of a 89 Z28? And how would I be able to get it to read right. Any help would be appreciated

 

u will need the gauge cluster, and it should hook up fine, just plug it in, and it should work .anyone else know if there is anything he needs to change?

I just did this last weekend actually. Everything went in find but my temp gauge went crazy on me. I was looking at the tech articles on this website and they said to replace the sending unit for the temp gauge, well stupid me wanted to see what would happen if I didn't. I doubt it broke anything but I just have to replace the sending unit this weekend and hope it workd after that.

what about changing the gears for the speedo. i dont know about the mechanical ones so i am just guessing. that is why i have the electric speedo. much easier to change!!

I didn't have to change anything and it reads fine. I don't know if with the newer styles you have to change anything but mine swapped out with no problem.

I changed mine and and the only thing I had to change was my oil pressure sending unit, I just changed mine so that I could have a tachometer but soon I will be putting in a 145 speedo, the gears inside are what make the speed differently so you shouldn't have to change anything except maybe the oil pressure sending unit or the water temp. I took the guages out of a 84 Z28 and there was no 145 speedo but now I am takeing a 145 speedo out of an 86 IROC, not sure but I think that the IROC's are the ones mostly with the 145 speedo.

My gas guage is not working. I got my Camaro out of storage the other day and never really thought about my gas being low. Well My car kept stalling and then finally wouldn't start. Duh no gas. Anyhow my gas gauge moves around way to much and is not accurate at all. Does anybody know what is wrong with this and how to fix it?

hey bill you might wanna take out your guage cluster and go through and tighten all the little bolts on the back of the cluster. sometimes they get loose and make the guages do weird things

 

My tripometer is also broken. Do you have any idea how to fix those??? I don't even know how it works but mine is stuck at all 0's.
