I put new ACC carpet in my car a couple of years ago. The factory name for the color of the interior is "medium dark gray". That's how I ordered it. I have since learned that ACC correlates that to their Dove Gray. Dove Gray has a greenish tint to it that doesn't match the carpet on the door panels, kick panels, etc. I am not happy with the color at all.
I called ACC about getting some samples so I could order the correct color next time. They told me that the sample set is very expensive ($70) and that only dealers would have them to look at. They gave me the name of a local shop that had them.
So, I went down with a sample of original carpet (correct color - not sun faded) to see which ACC color matched. NONE DID. Their colors are generic and in many cases come damn close, but aren't exact. None of the "usual" colors that suppliers list for my color matches very well. Looking at the samples, I decided that Steel Blue best matched the gray in my car. Yes, it's got a little blue tint (about as much as does the green carpet I bought), but in my car, that will look best.
ACC told me that all carpets are custom orders, so you can get any color you want for no extra charge. You just need to look at a set of their samples and indicate the color number you like. This is as opposed to letting some supplier decide which is closest or best for you.
