button not working on overhead console

i just took it out of my parts car...only one button worked (dont remember which) but it turned on the map light...i believe the other is supposed to turn on the interior lights, right?? also, how does it turn these lights on???? does it just power the dome light, which is on the same wire as the rest of the lights, which in turn powers the others???? thats the only way i can figure..also i think the only other lights are by the 2 kick panels, right? those dont work on my car ill have to check it out...but any suggestions appreciated on the switch....thanks

Well in the car a overhead console comes in originally that buttom turns on the interior lightsIncluding the dome light.
But when i installed one out of a 86 Firebird in my 90 Formula, that button only turns on the dome light, but when i use the headlight switch to turn on the interior lights all hte lights come on Domelight, light in trunk and the floor lights.

So i may have hooked it up wrong or some thing but it works well enough for me
And it just looks cool too!

I took the time to wire my lights in my overhead into the wires for the doorswitch that activates the lights when opened.
I can't remember exactly how, but if you draw it out and figure when you want the electrons to flow (holes flow for others) you should be able to figure it out.
Just what I did...(oh yeah..my map light mirror too )

You checked all your grounds, and actual connections at the switches yet?

In my 87 bird with factory installed overhead console, the dome light powers JUST the dome light. The wheel that adjusts guage dimness will turn on everything.

Your wirings fine, just about everyone I know says the same, the pass. button only turns on the domelight, but also everyone says the pass. button seem to get sticky eventually. Try disaassembly and claning. I just leave it alone and use the dimmer wheel myself.

Related: nyone have a "Firebird" flashlight in their Camaro overhead console? If so, I have the opposite problem. Email me.
