Clear Coat peeling

So I bought my 87 T/A with about half of the clear coat on the hood peeled, and was wondering if there was anything I could do to repair it besides going for an all new paint job. Could I sand off the clear and put a new layer on? Keep in mind, I dont need it to look like a show car right now. I just want clear covering the whole car.

Re: Clear Coat peeling

i just got an 87 a few weeks ago and its also peeling. i took some 1000 grit and 2000 grit sand paper and went around some of the areas it was peeling and kinda blended it in if thats what u wanna call it, used some rubbing compound on the area then waxed it. it looked 1000 times better.

Re: Clear Coat peeling

sometimes you can take a air blow gun and blow the rest of the clear off the hood, then have it re-cleared but honestly it is going to cost about the same to just re-clear it as to repaint the hood. we repaint hoods down here in fl cause the sun bakes the clear off, usually around 250 for a hood

guitarguy92b, Does it match in with the clear? like can you see a defined line where you waxed and where it still had clear?
