Need help stripping paint from Fiberglass hood.

I have an 82 Z28 hood that is currently gold, and i want to strip the paint off of it, so i can paint it red. Can i safely sand it down? Im worried about damaging the fiberglass. Can i use my Orbital sander, or should i do it by hand? What grit paper should i be using? What about chemical strippers? thanks for all your help...

Eric

I'd strongly recommend a chemical... check the boat supply places.

Any thoughts as to what chemical I'd be looking for? and an est. price would be helpful too...

Hey is there a reason you need to strip it down?? You can paint over the gold. Just seal it with a good primmer first. If you take it down to the glass you will wind up with trouble. Once you brake through to the glass you will get all kinds of small pin holes that will have to be filled. As far as chemicals most will eat into the glass so watch out!!
