EXPERT REPAIR ADVICE NEEDED
EXPERT REPAIR ADVICE NEEDED
I own a mauii blue 88 camaro sc.I recently got into a fender-bender which seriously messed up the paint on the front bumper.on about three spots the bare "metal" on the bumper is showing.on the rest of the bumper the paint is flaking off but there is another coat of paint underneath.
*ANYWAYS* HERES MY QUESTION...
I was told that i would need a new bumper because a new paint job would not last for more than a year on my damaged one...IS THIS TRUE? IS THERE NO WAY TO SAVE IT? I would also like to know the process-materials needed to repaint it.Any help is greatly appreciated.

If it is painted right, with the flex additive mixed right, it should stay on there, if not it will have to keep getting repainted.
One thing to consider is if there were any stretch marks or creases made in the urethane. If there are, they are all but impossible to remove, and a new cover would be much cheaper in the long run. Even the cost of just refinishing your original may exceed the cost of replacement. Something to consider.
If you decide to save your cover and do the work yourself, purchase some SEM flexible parts stripper and remove all of the old paint. SEM also makes a flexible filler that basicallly works like bondo (but is much harder to sand out). I used some of that to shave my front emblem off the nose. You MUST use flex agent if you want the paint to survive, but beware that it will cause the new paint to vary slightly in color from the rest of the car.
