what is directly below the cig. lighter

this may sound kinda dumb, but i have an 82 berlinetta and i am trying to figure out what went directly below the cigarette lighter on my console. it is a metal circle, it looks like it is a cig. lighter that is missing the stick that goes inside, but a normal lighter doesnt fit in it. thanks

Um.....that's where my rear defroster switch was, but it wasn't a round hole, it was kinda rectangular

If your car didn't have rear defrost, you probably should have just a blank black panel there.

Could have been put in there after it came from the factory. Maybe an outlet for a power source for something like a car phone.

I have the blank cover too, but I have the heating elements in my rear window. I wonder if all the defroster wiring is in the dash ready to be connected, but the original buyer didn't order it so no switch was added. Did all rear windows come with heating elements, even if the defrost option wasn't bought?

i say look for wiring on your window and see if you can follow that. Buy a switch, hook it up, and your ready to go.
