quarter panel repair or replacement?
quarter panel repair or replacement?
Hey, I live in Central Minnesota, where f-bodies are a rarity, so last night, i was backing out of my g/f's driveway and sure enough i wedge my '89 Formula's quarter panel into the wheelwell of her friends '90 Bonneville. In the battle of Pontiacs, the Bonneville edged me out and gave me a 1/2" deep 3" long gouge, while leaving itself unscathed. The bump cracked through every laver of protection, now leaving the quarter panel's 20 gauge steel exposed to the elements with a very noticable chunk of paint missing. Is there a nice, cheap repair that will bring my car back to 100% or am I gonna bite my lip and write a $500 check to pay for my dumbassedness? If there is anyone with any ideas, please reply, I'd appreciate it. thanx.

If it is a half inch deep and 3 inch long, I would just pull it and fill it with bondo. $500?? Only if you are going to enter it in shows. Just be patient, remember to pull out the dent as close as possible to original, and use less body filler than more, making thin layers, keep sanding in between layers.

I'd say leave it to a professional if you don't have a lot of experience with body work. When you get a dent like that, the metal stretches, and if you just pull it out, you wind up with too much metal and there's no way to make it look good.
