Hatch pulldown motor
Hatch pulldown motor
Had a weird problem with my hatch tonight. I was just heading out of town on business when I loaded the car and closed the hatch. When I got in, I could hear a kind of "grr grr gr gr grrrrrr" noise. The hatch closed, but it was like the motor wouldn't shut off. Not the sound of a relay clicking or really of a motor running.
Had to leave on business, so I just headed out. Ammeter looked fine and no probs on a 200 mile ride. When I got where I was going it had stopped.
Any ideas?
Thanks

i had this happen to me a while back.
mounting tabs for the plastic pulldown motor assembly had cracked. this assembly houses the motor and gears. the broken mounting tabs caused the entire assembly to be mis-aligned. i tried using plastic solvent to repair the mounting tabs, but they would break again in a few weeks. a replacement from GM was $34.

Same thing happend to me. When I bought the car the moron just took out the fuse and none of the power options worked. After fixing the cig lighter and plugging in fuses I found that it wouldn't shut off so i just unplugged the motor and use it like a normal trunk.

The plastic motor mount is cracked and broken. It can be repaired. If it has just cracked you can epoxy a sheet of aluminum to it and wrap the aluminum around the sides of the plastic. If completely broken you need to epoxy a piece of steel in the broken out section, drill and re-tap. I've repaired them both ways. It's just easier to do it if it hasn't completely broken away yet. Good luck, Lon.
