alright, i'm new here, so bear w/ me...how do i take the carpet out of my car?
I just got the car of my dreams, an 87 z28 IROC-Z...and the interior is tan and a little...well...it's VERY faded (and i think, mostly dirty). I was thinking about taking the seats from an 89 RS to put in the z28, but that will look stupid w/o the carpet from the RS (needless to say) so i'm wondering how (and is it really difficult) to take the carpet and rest of the interior out of the RS and install it in the z28. Or would i be better off just cleaning the carpet and seats of the z28?...aw man...decisions decisions decisions...
i cant remember exactly what size nuts and torx bits you need but i can tell you that it can be time consuming if youve never done it before and you should set away plenty of time to do it. "in theory" it is relavtively easy but also a PITA. just use the car your getting the interior from as a "practice" car to find out what you need to do to get certain things off and your car will be much easier!

In order to take the carpet out most of the interior has to come out (kick panles, sail panles, ect.) The console has to come out. I do not know what you need to take that out because mine had mismatched bolts everywhere. The seats are either a 13mm or 14mm bolt that is under a cover that is held in by screws. The carpet should just come out. One person can get it out and in but two people is better. Be prepared to spend some time on geting it out. It took me 3.5 hours to take my whole interor out of my 90 RS useing power tools. It takes some time but it can be done its not really hard.
if you are taking carpet up, wouldn't the seatbelts have to come out too? that could be a pain in the a$$ because those bolts are sometimes so tight they feel like they are welded, if you do need to take them out, use an impact tool.

Be careful when taken out them seat belt anchor bolts. There Torx bits and if your not careful and get the exact size and go a size to large they will stip easy.(even if it feels like it fits, always double check) I'd suguest puttin a breaker bar on the bolt to at least brake it loose first.

Hi all. I'm new in town. In answer to your question - it's not difficult at all. I am new to this whole experience. I picked up an '87 Iroc (5.7/350) and just did the same thing. You will need to remove the center console, seats, floor moulding, kick panels, seat belts and recievers, the plastic at the tail end of the rear and t-top bag tie in brackets (if applicable). Remember to mark any wires you disconnect so it's easier to put back together. Take your time and be patient. I did it across two nights after work. This is my first project car so if I can do it anyone can do it. Good luck.
