Junkyard Find!!!!

Well I finally got to re-do the crack-house interior of my T/A. The wife and I went to our local salvage yard and found a 90 Firebird with an absolutely immaculate interior. This thing actually still had the original plastic covers on the floor mats. Center console again was in brand new like condition and the dash map pocket obviously had never been used. So I got me new seats, center console, radio bracket, and map pocket for $325. Now, I think that the car was junked because the owner died of natural causes and started to decompose in the driver seat. If'n I can get that funk out, my interior will be 80% complete!

Aloha,
Hawaii 5.0

aww gack.

Use Febreze on everything and let it sit in the sun to dry. Then sprinkle Arm & Hammer carpet powder on it and vaccuum it up. Between those two products, I've never seen funk that won't come out (ever gone to the fish market and had that sucker slide out of the bag and roll it's nasty fishy self all over the carpet?).

For all:
My wife spent 3 1/2 hours steam cleaning the seats on the interior Sunday while I had duty on the ship. Glad to report that whatever that funk was, it's gone.

For CrazyHawaiian and HybridZ:
I got the parts at Abes, it's in Pearl City just west of Sam's Club in the Industrial Park just behind the Hawaiian Army National Guard Armory.

The new interior really did the trick! It looks so much better, and I am really motivated to finishing up this car now. I just wish people who bought muscle cars took better care of them. So far my wife and I have spent the lion share of our time just correcting 13 years of neglect. A couple weeks ago I replaced the ignition system, I removed the original wires, cap, and rotor. Two days later the electronic pick-up for the distributor shattered. I had to replace the entire cooling system. All that's left should be new injectors and fuel pump. A little body work (previous owners wife didn't know where the front end was) and new paint. Can't wait. Once all that is done, let the hot rodding begin.

Aloha and cheers,

Just because someone died and was rotting in the seat shouldn't be a bad thing... his loss

I'd have no problem doing the same if I needed new seats... ooo dead person, whoopdeefookindoo

OK, OK, OK

No, I don't think anyone died in my seat...I just had a really terrible stench coming from it. I had meant this as humor...but I guess I led ya'll along the path for long enough. Actually, it was either cat urine or mildew in the seat foams. The drivers side window was broken so it probably saw it's fair share of critters and weather. Glad I found it when I did before the elements really started to take their toll on that pristine console and dash.
