Re: Removing rear hatch glass
Yes, just last week. I assume you mean removing the hatch from the hinges and getting the rear lid off? The rear lid is secured with the nuts on the underside and it's glued in place. With any luck the adhesive is all dried up and you will not have a hard time taking it off. If not you will need some of that piano wire to get it off. I did this twice...once on the hatch that came on the car and with the replacement one I got. the original one, the lid was ON THERE! It took quite a bit of work with the wire and thin putty knoves to get it off.
The reason I took mine off was because the original one had sanding marks in the glass and the replacement one didn't align well. With the glass at the foremost position the rear lid would stick out past the sides so no other option than to break it loose and move it. I'm not sure but I think at the factory that's how they aligned it, on the car. I have replaced a couple hatches before and the non originals never line up well.
Aligning the glass is easiest with a helper. Remove the catch hook from the rear so you can set it down without the latch motor pulling on it. then push the thing to align while a helper in the car loosens the hinge nuts a little and tightens them as you hold the hatch in place. Helps if you undo the struts also
