SS hood Air Filter location

I have a big problem that maybe some one can help me with. I have a 92 Z-28 tpi with SuperRam w/1000cfm Accel throttle body, I also have the ASCD SS hood. I can not get the stock air cleaner set up to work my hood wont come all the way down with the stock setup so I put on a TPI cone filter on so I can use some form of filter but its breathing in all the hot air from the engine I guess making the engine get really hot while idling has anyone used this kind of setup if you did where is your Air filter if you had to do something custom I would like to see it post a pic or something. Or am I the only with this type of modification and having a problem. Any help would be great.
