I have one in my car, but I'm still in the process of getting everything setup right.

The front cup holder will get scratched to all hell or may not even move at all if you try to use the stock radio/climate pod. I'm having to rework the bottom right portion to allow for clearance and still keep the cup holder functional.

Had to make a plate to mount the window switches where the ash tray resided, fairly easy. Not sure what I'm going to do with the mirror controls yet though. Probably put them where the second fixed cup holder is right in front of the storage lid.

Other than that, the fit is a direct bolt in.

I'll get some pics down the road as I start to put my interior back together.

You can see pics of the window switch mount here. http://www.caraudioresources.net/ins...console_1.html

Tight enough that you can not turn out the cup holder.

The problem is that the front of the console sits a little high because it needs to clear the shift linkage on the shifter. This causes a very very tight fit up against the radio pod.

I have already choped into my radio pod, but if I get a chance this weekend I'll try to take some pics to give you an idea.

Just be sure that you start off with a manual shift plate whether you have auto or manual now. The auto shift plate will absolutely not fit.

i have a 6 speed auto out of a 97 camaro with the cup thing in the front, and i have no problems with mine, and i got my six the automatic to work to. people been been asking for pics, but i'm been really busy lately. i'll try to get some tomorrow so you can see how it turned out for me. like i said, it's a 97 camaro console (the newer style wit the cup holders in the back too), in my 91 rs cnvt. but it is possible though. all you need is a dremel.

It might be a little different fit in the camaro since the radio pod sits a little different. The 97+ camaro and firebird consoles are identical from what I've seen.

I'll have to look and see if I kept it. Where are you planning to mount your window and mirror switches?

here is an idea, but you'll have to bear with the striped out interior as I'm building alot of custom pieces from scratch.

http://www.caraudioresources.net/ins...d_radio_4.html

The purple thing you see is the fleece being molded around a frame for a new radio-a/c-video housing. Video will go up top next to where the vents are normally, vents staying in the same spot, two gauges on the far right will be moved into the a-piller, other two will be small gauges between the tach and the monitor.

What the heck is that purple thing?
I am doing the same thing, but I currently have a 1 piece console with the radio pod and everything together. I should just be able to bolt in a newer style radio pod when I get it mounted, right?

Ummm, read the full post, it explains exactly what the purple thing is...it's fleece that is being molded for fiberglassing.

Hay,GndPrx I'm sure it will look good when you get done,I test fit mine and it looks like all I'm gona have to do is move my shifter over twords the drivers side about ½ inch to level it out and center it,other than that no major problems with fit,I'll get some pics when I complete it,and for those who are wondering yes they do make a black one.

That console looks great! Too bad it would be such a major hassle to do it in a Camaro. Of course, then I could build my custom center console with my TV built in. Hmmmmm...

What about the gear indicator? Is there one on the console itself or was that normally in the dash on the 4th gens? (That is an auto, right?)

Because you have to use a manual console, there are no shift indicators, but you should know what gear you are in anyway without looking.

You could setup a series of electrical contact points on the shifter that would light up coresponding LED's mounted elsewhere to display your gear and silk screen the letters on. That's if you really wanted to get custom. Just a thought.

I know for a fact that the '97 - '2000 have the rear cupholders and 2 front cupholders, but the '93 - '96 I don't think had them,I think they only have the one up front

I never have any trouble telling what gear i'm in,You have to know your car, when I had a gear indicater I never looked down to see what gear I was in,,,You should be able to pick one up for about $100..some people have gotten them for as cheap as $60 some pay alot more,,it depends on where you get it.

I guess I can tell what gear I am in without looking, I just like to be able to make sure. Maybe I can rig up some switches that turn on in each gear and have some kind of trick looking gear indicator. Ahhhh, I've got an idea.....

You can read hom I put mine in at coolzone.ca then click trans at the top left then misc. at the right.I moved my shifter over about ½ in. to level it all out and clear the shifter better, but I didn't have any trouble getting the back to sit down and was even able to use the holes in the inside of the box to screw it down to the orig. holes in the floor board.I did have to temporarally remove the front compartment in front of the gear indicater because it was hitting the shifter cable and would not sit down right,,but after the console top was on it slid right back into place.

Hrmm, I was able to fit mine without moving the shifter over and lined up with the rear mounting holes just peachy.

I think without moving it over your radio pod will be a little offset, but since I'm not using the stock housing I couldn't verify that exactly.

I finally managed to mount both window switches AND mirror controlls in the old ash tray location. So I'm happy now...I'll post pics when I get caught up.

BTW, scott's85t/a E-mail me and I'll get you off that ashtray if you still need it.

hay nosaint,,what do you want pics of???you know I don't mind to take some pics. of my car!!
and firebreatha if your talking about the long lip that runs beside the pass.seats NO! you don't have to cut that off.you might look and see if its hitting something.Mine was a little tight going between the seats but it didn't need to be cut anyware except for the front tabs.and it will go without moving the shifter over but it looks like it is to far to the pass. side.I moved mine to center it better.
grnprx ,,I e-mailed you,,THANKS ALOT!!

O.K. what I did was move the entire shifter over about ½ in. to the drivers side so that the console would have room to move over too.I put the bracket there to help hold the bottom part of the console over to the drivers side a little,,its prob. not needed but I thought wile I had it all apart I would put it in there to help hold it over.If you look at the bottom part of the console you will see there is a locking tab that holds the top part of the console to the bottom part that hits the right side of the shifter, this is the piece that pushes the lower part to the pass. side. I drilled 4 new holes in the plate that holds the shifter so it could all be moved over.
now when it comes to window and mirror controls, you will have to talk to "GndPrx" because he did all that to his,,I don't have the power windows or mirrors on mine,if you look way up in this post you can see a link to were you can see his window switches he mounted in the ashtray.GOOD LUCK its not hard!

Ok, here's a pic. As you can see it takes up literally from side to side in the ash tray. I used a piece of plastic that was a good thickness to it. Cut out everything from the original ash tray except for a lip across the back. Make yourself a template out of cardboard or whatever and trace it out on the plastic. Cut the plastic a little big and sand it down for the best fit.

When you get it right, be very careful cutting out the openings for the switches as they leave very little plastic left in tact. Cut them small with a dremmel and then sand them to the right size opening. Once you are done, sand the parts that will make contact (bottom of the rear and lip, top of the front and under the shifter plate) and plastic weld (2 part plastic epoxy) the piece in place. Wait 24 hours for it to bond and install your switches.

If you are planning on putting both window switches and mirror controls there, you will not be able to retain the lid. You must remove all of the plastic under where the switches mount, which also takes away the hinge for the lid. also there is physically no room.

If you omitted the mirror controlls, it wouldn't be a problem.

Good luck.

well, i got down to full understanding of the console,

when you moved it over one inch, did you move the front two screws or did you move all of them, how is that possible on the rear two? theres only like 1/4 inch of room in the rear on the brackethmm.

hmmmmm......................
i could attempt to reFab that part of it.
i pulled in some aluminum sheet, thin, and a wood board 1/8 i think. so im going to try that as the window switches, the spot up front where that hole is in the pics, thats where the lcd is going, i would have loved to put the side view mirrors go....

ah well. a night to play. thanx again guys.
oh, scott. make a tech article, except with details. you know how many times i read nosaints site? over-and-over-and-ov... you get the point.
