add power door locks
add power door locks
I'm fixing the rust on my '83 Firebird and i've come to the conclusion that I shouldn't test my artistic bondo and fiberglassing skills too much and just buy a new door.
I would like to know how much of a hassel it is to install a door with Power locks and a power lock assembly on the other side. And where to the switches belong on an 83, the console, door or dash?
I like the idea of my doors opening when i turn my alarm off.
another question, more silly: Do they make remote starters for carb/manual cars?
thanks

Ive heard the hardest part about installing a door is the fact they are so heavy. The wiring should be cake. If I'm correct the lock switches were always on the door.
Remote starter for a carbed motor would be nearly impossibe, cuz how you gonna pump the gas? For a manual i guess its possible if you bypass the clutch safety switch, but then you better not leave your car parked in 1st or you will be chasing it!

You can mount an actuator on the throttle and use a 3rd channel to pump it before you remote start, and you can get around the neutral safety switch or put a safety switch around the shifter, but I highly reccommend that you don't do it. You WILL eventually remote start your car with it in gear. Kids and pets knock shifters around without you knowing about it. It's just not worth the risk. I won't install one in a manual car no matter how much I'm getting payed. It sucks that the carbed motors are the ones that really need the extra warm up time and it's so difficult to put one in.
Doors are easy to put in but you need atleast two people. As for putting the power locks in, its really easy. I wrote this for someone last week. If you need more help, let me know.

Are all cars wired for all the options in them? Are there wireharnesses for power locks/seats in the car? All I need are the switches and motors/seats?
