poping the hood problem

hey guys, i have a situation that must be solved once and for all. well i know many of my fellow thirdgen buddies all have the same problem. everyone has a problem with poping their hood. after pulling the hood cable thing the hood doesnt pop up. you ussually have to play with it and try to get it to pop up. now i tried rasing the bumbers but that didnt help much. now if anyone knew what the solution is, or has any tips, i would appreciate it. thanks

Hit the latch mechanism with a shot of grease on a regular basis... like at oil change time. Give the cable itself a smear of anti-seize compound where it runs into the sheath.

As for getting it open now, usually have somebody pull the handle and hold it, then you give the hood a few gentle pushes right above the latch - it should pop.

to get the hood to pop you have to push down above the latch and shimmy it side to side. I had this same problem and it was alingment related. if I ever had a problem I just pushed down over the latch and to the right and it would pop.

Remove the striker from the hood, clean off the old grease and scale, relube with fresh grease, then bolt it back in place. As simple as it sounds, this solved the very same problem on my car.

I had the same problem, as has everyone else. I stretched the spring slightly. Solved my problem.

Could this possibly have anything to do with the hood struts?? I have the same problem and I always thought it could have been the hood struts were not as strong as they used to be. Just wondering.

I agree with cleaning and greasing the latch.
It's worked for me

But do you think that maybe getting a new cable would solve this problem?

Do what i do with my 84 olds, pull the cable, then slam the drive side door and the hood should pop up.

What I did was adjust the hook on you hood. It took some time you just have to play with it. Also put some new grease on the latch. Hopefully that works for ya!

I had the same problem when I first bought my car. I just hosed the latch down with WD40 and then used some lithium lubricant on it. I haavn't had to touch it in 2 years. It pops the first time every time.
