T/A to Z28

How hard would it be to modify the front of my 89T/A to fit the nose from my 82 Z-28? Yes I want to eliminate popup headlights.

Actually my Z has lots of good parts that just happen to be bad on my new project car which is the 89 GTA. The interior is complete and the main body is rust free on the GTA but the nose and hatch are junk and I figured if it wasn't a lot of work.....I like the Camaro look better and with all the amenities that are on a GTA it would be like an IROC upgrade.

Making a Firebird look like a camaro is just wrong.

I am actually looking for assistance not opinion. I am pretty sure if I swap the nose and hood and the hatch and tail lights you would be hard pressed to ID it as one or the other with no badges.

Ok.

You will need to swap the nose, hood, fenders, headlight bar, doors, rear bumper and quarter panels to do it the 'right' way.

You'll then have the issue of a car that is titled as a firebird, but with the appearnace of a camaro. It will be tough to sell, and law enforcement may become concerned in the event you have a run in with them.

Not too mention the interior.

You asked what it would take. To make the full conversion, I told you.

If you just want to chnage the front end, you would still need to swap the fenders, hood, headlight bar and nose.

And all the wiring for the lights. And the splash guards and the air scoop and the ground effects.

Re: T/A to Z28

I can understand your reasoning, taking two cars and making one good one. But it's much easier if you have apples and apples, not apples and oranges. If it were me, I would decide which one you liked the appearance of better and sell the other one. Then you could use that money and buy an appropriate parts car with all the goodies that you want. Keep all the parts that you need, part out the rest and you'll have the parts that you want basically free. Good luck with your project.

I appreciate you saw why I asked the initial question. I thought more stuff was interchangeable. I have had 2 z28s and now 2 T/A's and love both ...just trying to stretch a buck. The GTA has so many cool options I will have to go that way. I have spent a lot(to me) on the Z, but it is all in all motor so I will make it work when the time comes. Thanks

Re: T/A to Z28

Talked to a guy in Spokane that did that....had trouble getting the hi-beams to work, don't know how far he went with changing the wiring or just modifying it. There are some other headlight options here on the forum. Can't remember what they call it, uses the same "pockets" for the headlights, but inset like the Camaro's.
