What to do with 82-83 Z28 Fiberglass Hood??

ok... I've been running a few ideas through my head... my current fiberglass hood isn't in the best of condition on the nose but I assume if I wanted to really keep it I could fix that with minimal work...

But my question is this... if I cannot find a CFI Z28 hood ... is it possible to convert the standard fiberglass Z28 hood into a sort of ram air like the CFI hood?

I'm not talking like having the vents actually open and close like the CFI, I was thinking more along the lines of removing them completely and putting a mesh of somesort over the holes once they were cut out and putting some rubber ducting muchlike the CFI hoods...

I assume this would work great with one of those K&N xstream filter tops... and I'm hoping to find a way of doing this until I can afford a brand new ASCD hood later on...

The only problem I'd really think I'd have with this is actually washing the car with the vents off... but that could be taken care of either by A: letting the water go into the air filter itself and not worry about it or B: just put the louver piece over the hole again or just use a bit of masking tape to cover it ...

With the rubber ducting I wouldn't have to worry at all about getting the distributor soaked and if I end up driving it in the rain the air filter will collect most of the water if I'm not mistaken...

But thats my main concern after this is the water when driving... since I've obviously got a carburetor, how much water would be too much water for doing this?

Any suggestions are welcomed, and if anyone has a CFI hood for sale let me know, hehe

i have the assembly for the CFI hood that allows it to open and close, if you could cut yours out and then figure out a way to bolt it in, and then try to make the syleniod work off your computer Im sure it would work I have a CFI hood, but i molded over the openings becuase i didn't have enough hood clearance to to get the opening assembly under there. To make it work i would have had to cut into the top of my aircleaner, and then use an extreme air lid so that no unfiltered air would get into the carb. Your probably better off just leaving it as is, and then making a cold air system like i did.

Zup, do you have the rubber boot whatsit from the hood?

Thats all I'd really need from it because I'm probably going to do the K&N filter top thang

The rest I'm still thinking about ...
I have no computer in my camaro anymore so I'm sort of shooting from the hip on this one and hoping to work something out until I can get a new hood or find a CFI hood (wish me luck, LOL)

I assume I could get the solenoid to work with a toggle switch couldn't I ?

Just out of curiousity how much would ya want for it?

i tried to get the syenoid to work just by hard wiring it, but it didn't work. im not sure if it's shot or not. I have everything except the flaps themselves. I took them off the assembly and used them to seal the holes closed. The rubber thing is there but it's not in the best of shape.

Tell ya what, if you want it it's yours, just pay for shipping. I'll never use the thing anyway.
