Upper hinge pin replacement question.

Axle/Gears: 9-bolt 3.27 & PBR
Upper hinge pin replacement question.

I'm finally fixing my hinge pins. On the upper ones, does the lock nut pull the splined part of the pin into the hinge by itself or does it need some tapping too?
