12" steering wheel too small??

My Iroc is in need of a new steering wheel and I found a used one in nice shape, but it is only a 12" diameter. Is that to small for our cars or is that alright to use? Anyway any input on this would be appreciated.

You need to check the laws in your state about steering wheels. Some require the steering wheel to be the same diameter as stock. Found that out the hard way.

very true,I have to change mine every year at inspection time.and mine is just a little bit smaller then stock and it does feel and look to small for the car,the feel you will get use to.Also if it matters to you a smaller wheel will hide more of the gauges so check this to.

hey david did you ever find out about the laws concerning the use of that 12 inch wheel? I just got one as well and I plan on putting it on, after I get the car inspected, let me know if you find out anything about NJ laws and steering wheels. Thanks.

supposedly anything less than 13" is illegal for on road use in all 50 states.

Damn... oh well, I doubt they'll notice an inch lol, hopefully... any reason as to why this is illegal? Perhaps it would give me a good reason not to use it.

I would think that it's just a matter of it being difficult to perform evasive maneuvering with a smaller wheel... less room for your hands on the wheel... that plus it takes a little bit more force to turn the wheels, but with power steering it's probably barely noticeable

Actually, I've found it easier to move quickly with the smaller wheel.

Does anyone know where one can find information about whether something like this is legal or not? I'd like to read it somewhere stating it is definitely illegal.

I know that taking airbags off is legal, so who cares if one puts on a 12 inch wheel, I don't know, it doesn't make sense to me.

Here's my new wheel by the way:

Cool, they probably won't even notice its 12 inches, or care...

You have a sweet set up, your interior looks damn nice, I'm also looking into a roll cage now so I can get a harness, since I'm losing my airbag... I also read an experience of someone's Grant GT evolution wheel ripping apart in an accident and almost impalaing the dude, sounds kinda scary.

I'm actually anticipating on it having a quicker response because you will apply more force, and so you'd need to move the wheel less to get the same amount of work done, where as on a larger wheel you'll need less force, but more turn to get the same amount of work done.... I think.
