well, i am pissed. i started putting the ground effects on my car tonight. its a 89 bird that i am making a T/A replica. i got fenders off a 84 T/A. you know what? the damn fenders wont work. apparently the extractor thingy is to big, the gfx actually goes over it. ohhhh i am not happy. i thought it would work, and posted it on here and got replies saying it would work, but thats the way it goes i guess. i am gonna look at it again in the morning, maybei maybe i am wrong. well, just wanted to let everyone know. lil jay

Checked the archive using search, apparently I never saw you ask. The gfx on the older, 82-84, t/a's had smaller (height) gfx all the way around so the side baffle was larger. The p/n's don't match either so they were (the baffles) 2 differnt style/size parts.
If you had gotten a pair of standard bird fenders, it wouldn't have been a problem (there was no extractor). If you can score a pair of standards, you could make a replica GTA (GTA's had no side extractors). But,, since junkyard selection sucks, that might be a PITA to do. The guys at Universal are pretty cool tho & have descent prices.
Or, you could just tack weld some sheet metal in & dough over it. I'd even let you borrow my welder

Those extractors are only $14 or so each without the screens, but the screens fit both styles of extractors.
I have one from my 86 that is the kind you need, it is the passenger side one.
I put on some Camaro 91-92 rocker panels and I needed the extractors with the long vents.
If you need it, let me know.

If I was around when you posted, I would have told you that 82-84 T/A fenders are different than 85-90 Fenders, 91 & 92 they changed them again, no extractors.
sorry, I was late.

The fenders are not different just the size of the air extractors.
Just get some from a 85-90 T/A and you will have no problem-(the extractors just pop out of the fenders they are only held in by cllips).

LilJayv10,
I was one of the guys who answered your question regarding the bolting of 86 TA gfx on 83 TA fenders dated August 14, 2001. You simply asked if it could be done (and you didn't state your original year or model of firebird) and I said yes, IF you drilled new mounting holes. All 82-92 TA fenders are identical with the exception of the GTA and 91-92 TAs, which shares the identical fender with the 82-92 formula or base model firebird. The ONLY differences are the gfx mounting hole locations (hence the need to redrill the holes for the particular year gfx) and the visual design of the extractor (the extractors are the same size dimensionaly). For the complete TA replica conversion, you are going to need an 85-90 nose with the molded in gfx or your fender gfx are not going to line up with anything on the front bumper.
So, I hope this cleared some things up, and yes any 82-90 gfx WILL bolt to ANY 82-92 fender PROVIDED you redrill the mounting holes for the gfx.
From the classic industries catalog:
Original GM fenders
part numbers G8999 RH 82-84 TA (4 gfx holes)
part numbers G9901 RH 85-90 TA (3 gfx holes)
G9003 RH 85-92 GTA, formula and standard, AND 91-92 TA (no extractor)
I am looking at the pictures of the actual fenders and they are identical, even the extractor location. The only differences are the amount and location of the gfx mounting holes hence the different part numbers.
