Scratch repair question
I posted this a couple days ago in the appearance board and got nothing so I thought maybe it's better suited for this board. Anyways, here it is:
Okay I was walkin to my car and noticed quite a big, ugly new scratch on my passenger side rear fender. Its not dented, so I think I can fix it myself. Do I just have to sand it down, primer it, and paint it? Any recommendations on what grit to use/what paint/primer? Also, should I clearcoat it when its done? Thanks.

depends on how deep it is. Drag your fingernail across the scratch. If the scratch is deep enough to catch your fingernail, then yes its, sanding, priming, painting. If not, try rubbing compound first!
If you need to sand, hand sand the scratch with 220 grit on a sanding block or wood paint stick, do not use your fingers (it will create grooves). As for primer and paint you have to find out what type of paint is already on the car and use the same type i.e. acrylic enamel, urethane, laquer.
Do a search for the words "painting" on this forum for more detailed info.
