Earl Shieb Paint Job???? Any Opinions???

Does anyone know anything about Earl Shieb paint jobs? I'm thinking about getting my car repainted and I don't have a lot of money. What do you guys think? Also, How do you fix those little annoying door dings and dents like that. Filler Primer? Bondo? Or just leave it alone? Thanks.

For the love of *** , NO! The quality is terrible, you'd be better off giving a can of paint to a group of 5 year olds and letting them go wild on your car.

One of the Shieb's around here does a great job, you just don't know what color your car will be when you get it back.

Actually trucking mag did an article on them once and said that they do a great job for what you pay for the said they did most of the prep work before taking it to them they removed all the emblems and any thing that needed to be removed for the paint job if you don’t they will just tape around it and go. The paint they use is base coat clear coat same stuff any other paint and body shop would use. Unless you asked for a higher quality paint. Hot rod mag used them to not long ago to paint an 88 transam I believe and they said the same thing the quality of the paint job depends on how well you do the prep work. You can do most of it your self remove every thing that you don’t want taped and painted on are cars this will be mostly emblems light all lights remove the tail lights blinkers and head lights If you are going to have them trim the doors out you may want to remove the door seals, T top seals if you have them and rear hatch seals If any under hood paint will be done my advice is clean as much as possible. You will probably have them fix the minor dings hopefully you don’t have a lot of rust to fix. If the body is straight and no major body work is needed then you can go to the local paint supplier this will be ware the body shops get their stuff at and buy a box of the red 3m scotch bright pads then get a bottle of the 3m paint and body prep cleaner its in a gray bottle looks like a shampoo bottle. After you have this wash your car better then ever before I use the purple stuff and a pressure washer then wet down the car wet one of the scotch bright pads and then put a bought a spot as big as a quarter or half dollar of the 3m cleaner on it and start scrubbing the car this will start to remove the clear coat and some of the color it will also get the dirt and oil you mist you will know when your done with the car because the paint will be dull now. Do this the day or the day before you take it to the body shop I know you have to drive it their so you will have to put the tale light back in until you get their but that ok you can pull them out in like a minute if you leave the interior panels out. This is the same thing that they will clean it with again before they paint it but you will probably have done a better job then them. Just remember that the reason these places have bad paint jobs is they do not do the prep work that the high dollar places will do so if you do it all your self before hand you will be amazed at how well the paint job will come out. I know some one out their will probably disagree with me but the guy who sprays the paint on my car worked for a MACO , a dealer ship and know owns his own body shop and he will tell you his self that the difference is in the prep work not the quality of materials as long as the person laying the paint on knows what their doing. When he painted my car he did it at my house I did all the prep work and even taped it off all he did was spray it on and it looks great I asked him how much it would he would have normally charred for the paint job if he did all the work and it would have been 2500 it only cost me 500 in materials and a case of beer to have it done. Hope this helps.

ok, if your gonna go to wanna those cheapo paint shops go maaco. i know this because i went to earl shieb and got a 500 dollar job. the paint job turned out great, and still is, 2 years later. the prob is they make there own paint. i got into a fender bender and they couldnt match the paint exactly cause there was no paint code. i asked maaco and they said they use sherwin willams paint, so it can be matched in the future. i mean earl doesnt do the best body work, but then again you are getting what you pay for, i have no complaints about mine, i just wish i would of taken more stuff off my body, taillights, handles, lock, ect... hope this helps. you could always do the body work your self then have them spray the car.
