Did you get a jack assembly from an 84? They changed the jack assembly and associated hardware about 5 times between 1982 and 1992. Look in the owners manual if you have it, or go from the sheet on the spare tire cover. If you don't have any of that, keep reading.

First, you should have a threaded stud in the spare tire well, the jack should have a hole that slips over that stud. The jack may or may not have a keyed end that slips into a slot into the body. Then you should have an eye bolt with threads about an inch long. That screws into the stud. The jack handle should either slip into the jack assembly, or be held by a **** that screws in, or a clip... Then you should have a long J bolt. The hook end hooks into the eye, the other end goes thru the hub of the tire, then you use the large washer, then the wingnut. If you have a tire inflator canister it'll have its own bracket that holds it to the spare.

never use a "used" jack.Unless you yourself is the one that used it.I have seen these things fail with no warning.its good for the side of the road/tire but thats it.get a good floor jack.

Hey thankyou very much Drew and Zee28 I got it figured out thanks to your advice now the dang spare tire isn't knocking around anymore woohoo !! :-) Zee28 don't worry I tottally agree with you I never use the car jack as a regular jack thats insane lol thats why I have a floor jack. Reason I bought the jack was because I've gotten a freaking flat tire twice already and have been stranded because of that sucked again thanks alot guys
