any one put aftermarket gages in a firebird?
I have a 89 gta and I was wanting to go with aftermarket (autometer) in place of my factory gages. Has anyone done this or know if it is possiable. I am going to relocate the idiot lights so that is no prob but I don't know if the gages will fit in the stock openings. I hope you can help me.

yea kind of like that. That does look trick! I was wondering if my 89 gta has a cable drive speedomoter or a digital one. Also can the factory gage plate be replaced with an aluminium plate easyly or would I have to tear up the faceplate and dash to do it? I am sorry for all the questions but I don't have access to my car right now it is at my mothers house.

Thanks,
I believe 86 and up are electric speedos. I dunno whether this makes the swap any eaiser. I had to get a new cable made that was 4 inches longer and had a universal connector on the end, instead of the GM push in speedo cable.
My gauges are mounted to the outside trim panel, the cluster was prettymuch discarded. You may be able to do it differently, but this was the simplist way to do it. Going with a different trim, like aluminum will be very difficult in my opinion.
I had a kickass digital EQ over in the map pocket area. It just fit.
