Aluminum Hood?

Aluminum Hood?

Did any thirdgens come stock with an aluminum hood? Aftermarket? Just wondering.

Problem with aluminum, it dents to easily. In most of the aluminum alloys that you see are "soft" and don't really work well when they're thin like on a hood.
I don't know of any aftermarket aluminum hood for a thirdgen.

I can't be 100 percent possitive but my hood certainly dosn't sound like steel.. It sounds like aluminum, no dents though.. Its a 84 power budlge hood.. stock im assuming..

Fiberglass hoods were available on early Z28's. I don't remember the last year they were available, but it may have been 1984.

YES, I can name one car that CAME with an aluminum hood. I was looking at this 1992 Firehawk that had an aluminum hood. It was still owned by SLP at the time. NOT all Firehawks had this option, but they are out there. I do not know where though. It is the power-Buldge hood for firebirds though.

I had a 78 Monte Carlo that had an aluminum deck lid (trunk lid for those who don't like "deck lid"). It couldn't be distiguished from the rest of the car's sheet metal as far as strength and dent resistance are concerned. I realized it was aluminum only when it started to corrode and it looked white instead of rusty-brown.
