You need to have the trunk/hatch open to remove the taillights (unless you can fit in the trunk?)
Remove the plastic interior trim panel (large rear panel) by removing the plastic screws.
To remove the center section I think you have to loosen/remove the tail lamp assemblies themselves. All 3 pieces are connected when the lights are in place (they overlap each other). Its very easy to remove the lights, just unscrew the large plastic wing nuts.
I have done it several times, it is pretty simple. Good luck

Four TransAm's are not enough. Firebirds for all.

You have to have the hatch UP, there is NO other way to get it out. Unless you cut the trim piece. There are 2 screws on the top of the rear hatch trim piece that hold it down around the latch. You need a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove them. Then you will have to remove the plastic screws and then remove the trim piece. you will have to unplug the wires for the hatch area light.

alright thanks for the help but lets say there is no way to get in the trunk could i possibly use a hammer and a screwdriver (this will settle an arguement) so basically what im asking is can you remove the center piece with out damgeing it even if it means smashing the hell out of the two other lights.Thanks.
