re-installing the nose/front bumper assembly
I'm in the process of finishing the body work and metal replacement on my 84 Camaro. I removed the front bumper to sand it down and prime. Before you crucify me, it wasn't really attached right to begin with. I did notice that (if they're the actual parts, forgive me) a double threaded bolt with a nut in the middle. On either side of nut, it had two different threads. I think there was only one on each side, and bent to hell anyway. Do I need to find more of these to install the nose the correct way? Where might I find new ones that are not all beat to hell?

Re: re-installing the nose/front bumper assembly
If you are referring to the mounting points on either side edge of the bumper cover, they were originally brackets with studs sticking up. The flat metal backing bracket goes on the front side of the mounting tabs of the cover, the studs poke through the holes in the fender , then nuts to hold in place. After the original brackets are gone, people use a variety of washers and bolts to take their place, but the original brackets or copies work best. You can prob get used brackets in the classifieds, or they are easy to make if you can weld. Show us some pics of your bumper cover, may not be worth using the brackets if your mounting tabs are broken off.

I don't recall seeing any metal brackets anywhere during the tear down. I literally had to pull the fenders and nose off in a single piece to remove the bumper cover. There are two threaded studs on each side (about in the middle on both sides) that were actually attached with nuts. I'll see about getting a picture this weekend when I'm working on the body again.

Yup, someone's ghetto replacement for the brackets, better to replace them with brackets.

I'm not surprised. The last owners were "mechanics," and if their work on the car is any indication of their ability, I would never trust them with a power wheels. I'm not saying that I'm the greatest gift to cars, but I'm very methodical in my methods. If it comes off the car, it goes back on the car. Some call me ****-retentive, but I digress...
Where do I find replacement brackets? I've looked in the parts yards around here, but it seems like every third gen camaro I come across was involved in a front-end collision...

Most in yards will be too rusty anyway.
See my above post for replacements.

I did see that post, and I'll keep an eye our for them. But does anyone make reproductions of the original parts? If i have to make them, I can, but until I get to that point... I'm working on the floors and rear tubs before anything else. I'll get to correctly installing the front bumper cover when I approach the painting stage
