Need help on the top black panel on the door

I haven't a clue as to how to get this black
panel off of the inside of the door. Mine is
broken and I need to replace it. If anyone has any kind of good advice, I'd appreciate it greatly. This is the piece that the door
panel fits into on the top of the door.

ok....what you do....

remove the armrest
take off the plastic for the locks, mirror ect....

if manual windows, youll need a special tool to remove the handle, just gotta pop this little clip out

now....being careful...now you need to pop out theplugs used to hold the cardboard panels on...i use a wire strippers for this cuz i can get undernearth the plug and it will pop out....

with all of these out....(window down)tilt the panel up and wiggle the top, it should pop right out

yeah .... you gotta take the whole door panel off first ... then it will be obvious how the top/back part is attached.

Be VERRRYY careful, wen I did mine I could not simply "pop" them off because the pins are only plastic. I took a pair of needlenose plyers and a small screwdriver. I gripped the little sheetmetal nut and unscrewed it. I used the screwdriver to help it up by prying on the underside.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to do this ON-car the door panel MUST be removed. I think it has been covered before BUT:

1) Roll the window all the way DOWN.
2) remove the armrest 3 large Torx screws, 2 under the armrest, one up top by the door lock switch.
3)Remove the Window roll up handle (if applicable)

Standard intiorior:

4) remove the 2 trox screws that hold on the poser door lock switch panel. and remove the one screw under that.
5)remove the panel for the remote mirror (driver side only) if applicable.
6) remove the panel on the door. (This is kind of tricky, because the door lock slider is a PITA. I sometimes will slide the panel as far back as it will go on the door and try to pop the slider part off of the metal rod.)
7) Pop door free with a door pulling tool. If you pull the white plastic pieces out of the door panel, you can usually (not always) pop them out of the door and re-screw them back into the cardboard.
8) now while pulling up on the door panel, use the palm of your hand, gently beat on the top plastic panel toward the outside of the door, to release the 3 or 4 little tabs that snap it on.

NOTEs:
---IF you have a cupholder on the door, you will have to remove it BEFORE you try to pop the door panel off.
---The pockets on the doors are NOT usually attached to anything other than the intior door panel.
---IF you have the DELUXE interior with the formed fiberglass panel, OR you have the later panel for firebirds, you will have to pop off the little firebird emblem to get to the torx screw. be VERRY VERRY careful with this little emblem, I have a tendancy to break it every time, and i am VERY careful.

Hope this helps.

When you get good at removing your door panels and it sould only take you about 15-20 min each side.

John
