Soaked hatchback

I noticed a couple times in the past few months that the stuff in the locked storage compartment (driver's side, opposite spare/jack stow) got soaked in the rain, but I didn't care b/c it was just a p.o.s. Haynes manual and gloves and stuff.

Now, when it rains, I notice this compartment AND the entire bottom carpet area (esp on driver's side) soaked in the hatchback.

Anybody else had this problem? It stinks pretty bad and I want to find the leak and fix it asap, esp w/winter approaching.

Thx for any help!

i would imagine the only way to leak in the hatch is the hatch weather seal, do you have any cracks in it at all? only other place i know water enters the hatch from is the t-top bar...

Joel..i have the same exact problem..these are the following parts of my car that gets puddles..(actual freaking puddles!!!!)..front passenger floor board, rear passenger floor board and the entire rear floor of the rear hatch area.. i plan on replacing the entire carpet in the car soon..would sure like to fix this if at all possible..would hate to stink up $180 dollar carpet..thought about having a friend spray the outside of my car with water around that particular side of the car..while i'm on the inside watching for where the water comes in at....I have looked at all my seals..they appear to be in great shape..what else could it possibly be?...Thanx

KlayBuRn - I forgot to mention it in my post, but no, that's the first place I looked. The weatherstrip looks fine all the way around.

Brent - Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to do the same thing (grab a friend and a hose and check for leaks from inside... it'll be hard, tho, if it really is coming in through that compartment :-( ). I'm getting a big puddle in the rear, too, when it rains enough - p.i.t.a. to clean up and de-stink. Definitely fix the leak before the new carpet :-) . I guess I'll check it out and post what (if anything) I find, unless anybody else has a suggestion...

I know there is a way if u have a auto pull down hatch to make it pull down tighter. If u have the manual pull down I think u can make it seal down tighter someway too. Im not exacty sure how , but Know there is a way.

on my 87 camaro, it did the same thing and that was because the pull down motor never worked, even before i bought it. I never knew that it was electric so i just thought it was weather stripping. On my firebird now, the t-tops leaved bad, so i just put some black dow cornering sealant on the top outside where the window goes into the plastic. Water would go in and run all the way to the front, maybe to the back on yours. Just a guess....
