Speedo problems

I just replaced my 110mph speedo with a 145mph speedo. Every gauge works fine, except for the speedo. It just bounces back and forth between 35mph and 0. Any ideas?

did you take apart the speedo at all? is the speedo cable hooked up and tite? I dunno if any of those would cause that but just to make sure.

make sure the speedo cable is operating freely. If it binds in the housing, it is possible for it to basically wind itself like a spring, and then snap loose, causing the 30 mph (or so) reading!! Good luck

It's in a 92RS, so there is no cable, it's electric. I pulled it back out and replaced it making sure everything was making contact, but it's still doing the same thing.

What year is the cluster out of. Might need to change the VSS Buffer module. I am not 100% sure.
Do you know if that cluster was working before you got it?

I'm not sure if the cluster worked before or not. It's out of a '92 Z28. When I pulled it out I noticed the ribbon cable on the back is a little bent up on the speedo, but it wasn't torn.
