Ideas on finding a good body shop
I own a 86 Trans Am I got it repainted back in 96. And it was not done right, the paint started to bubble & peel on the front bumper. They did not fix the drivers door (it sags) even though they told me that they put new pins in the hinges. The paint has that crinkly orange peel look to it,( under the clear coat) I took it back to them about 5 or 6 times in the year that it was guaranteed and it still looked like crap. even 2years after it was painted.I checked this shop out completly before I let them paint my car. Now Im really leary of who to trust. How do I keep from getting screwed. or am I just at the mercy of morons like this.
sorry about that first dont take it to the cheapest place you can find try a collison shop but it will cost more but usally they do better work than a one or two man shop .Some shops will not do all over paint jobs. just let them know what you want and do not pay for it untill it is done to your likings and do not take the car until it is finished .

Welcome to both of you on the boards. The best advice I have ever seen on this board about finding a good body/paint place is to find out where your local cruise spot is or classic car show and pick a dozen cars that you absolutely love the paint on. Then just ask the owner if he/she wouldn't mind telling you who painted their car. More than likely a shop's name will repeat. There is no better proof than actually seeing the finished product. And remember, when it comes to bodywork/painting you absolutely without question, get what you pay for.
