Can T tops can ever seal totally?
Can T tops can ever seal totally?
Hi
I've tried everything to seal my T tops in my 84 TA. I've brought new seals, sealed with silicone, filled any hole but I still get leaks in the corners. I've stopped most of the water getting in but I cant stop it all. It still seeps in and runs down the pillar and into the pan. I don't have the headliner fitted so I can see the water coming in. If the headliner was fitted I'd never know it leaked except probably wet carpet.
I'm at the point of not ever driving in the rain now as I don't want my new interior to get water damaged.
Any ideas on an absolute fix for this?
Thanks

When you replaced the weather stripping, did you bridge the gap from the A/B-pillar to the top with a bead of windshield caulk? The transition from the flat surface of the top to the vertical portions of the A and B pillar have a gap that needs to have this.

Is that your car Scott? It has almost no mileage on it, why'd you have to replace the seals?

Don't forget about the seal from ttop glass to top trim piece. I chased leaks to death once on my 82 until I figured this out and now it's leak-free. At the edge of your ttop panel (on top and over the door glass) there is a metal trim piece. Between this trim and the glass is a strip of rubber, if that's rotted out, it will leak there. Pour a small cup of water on top of each ttop close to this trim piece and see if the water disappears in that gap and goes inside the car. That's how mine were leaking and it had nothing to do with the weatherstripping underneath.

I replaced them because of age. I thought they were going because the passenger side kept folding under when the door closed. I messed them up when I tried adjusting for that.
