Grinding power windows

Grinding power windows
Got home today and hit the window swith, about half way up the passenger window stops moving, just grinding. I tried to put it back down, went about 2 inches down, then more grinding. I shook and giggled it until I got it to go up all the way. Any ideas on what went wronge here, it was fine before today. Regulator, motor? Thanks!
