Manual rear hatch?
Since, like most, my rear hatch is broken, I have been dumbfounded by the amount of issues these have, from having so many weak points, to having to close it gently or risking breakage, to the cost of new parts. It just seems like a great idea in theory, but not in practice. Mine is rigged to be in the always up position so it latches and opens with the key. This is great, but the hatch sits an inch or so higher than its seated position. How could I get rid of that spacing and just have a manual system that latches in the proper position? someone has to have done it, so what do you guys think?

I cut out a section of carpet on the floor of the back and welded a piece of metal on it and I use a ratchet strap between that and a place on the latch you can hook on to. It's pretty ugly and a pain to open but it does work to keep everything in place.

Im probably going to end up welding it. Do you have any pics of your weld job bust as an idea?
