Nice work on the re-paint. Wish those seats/interior were black.Black/yellow would be so nice!

Thanks 90 and 84...the grey is what came in the car so it stays..I will be putting on the rear window louvers and a silver/black stripe kit..so I think the grey will still look good..interior is all original so my plan is to keep it that way..

Today the windshield and t-top bar were installed...cleaned and painted the rear louvers and headlight buckets with the same semi gloss black single stage urethane I used on the headlight pockets on the bumper and t-top bar..transferred hardware to the new headlight bar from the old cracked one..that's all, nothing too exciting..

T-top and door seals were good so reusing those..the window sweeps, rear hatch and obviously windshield are all new..also waiting on new door handles and mirror to body gaskets..the new windshield and molding looks killer against the yellow! I can't wait to finish the front end and get the hood and louvers back on it! I also have NOS fog light grill and parking lamps to go in it. Rained most of the day today so hoping for some sunshine tomorrow so I can get this new carpet laid in and seats back in.

Man that looks nice. Did you pull the glass out of the doors? It's such a pain to do on these doors!!!!

No I didn't pull the glass because of what a pain it is! Haha!! I got a little paint on them but I will take a razor blade and some foaming glass cleaner to them..the foam type makes it a little easier for the blade to slide across the glass.

Thanks Ken..your engine bay looks awesome! The only reason I am this far ahead of you is because I had to do literally no work to engine/drivetrain..just got a pesky relay sticking or something..not sure yet what's going on..the fuel pump runs constantly..I haven't really tried too hard sorting it out just yet.

Here's where I'm at today..cleaning all the interior plastics..I have them all cleaned and letting them sit and dry out until tomorrow afternoon..I kept telling myself I was not going to touch the hood louvers and set them on the hood until the hood was on the car but..after putting away all my tools this evening I looked over at the hood and then at the louvers sitting on the bench and they both kept taunting me!! DO IT!!DO IT!! Is all I kept hearing...so,you all know I had to listen to them..
I am quite pleased with how it looks!(:

Getting there..little by little.
New insulation and carpet
Center console
Rear plastics and seats
Door locks and handles
And t-top seals...All done!
Have to pick up some new screws for the window sweeps tomorrow....for some reason they didn't give me new ones in the box.

Thanks tx..getting there now that I finally have a few hours each night after work to wrench on it..

Well, didn't get to the front end and hood as planned today..I had to run some errands so it put a damper on my time frame..
I did get the new abs headliner wrapped and installed, seats and door panels are also in! No pics yet,I will take some tomorrow if I have time to get it out of the garage and get the front pieces on.

Finally! The last painted piece is finished! Chin spoiler was painted when the rest of the pieces were but I wasn't happy with the way it turned out..sanded it back down and just finished repainting it..

4 new tires and 4 new center caps..sweet..not too happy with the shop that did the tires though..when replacing all 4 tires why would you not change the valve stems with new ones? I even brought the wheels to them off the car..smh!! That was the first and last time I go there.

Fair enough. This one looks good, hope your next one turns out as nice as this one did. Too bad I already have one, or I'd offer to pick this one up from you.

So while I have her still up on jack stands i thought it would be a good idea to check everything out underneath..found one surprise..an extra oil sender unit next to oil filter with no wires hooked to it,just threaded in and hanging out..?..I know these were started in 89 so no clue why someone went through the trouble of putting it in..the original is intact, hooked up and working properly..
She is doing something odd though now...when i shut the engine off after running for a few minutes..the fuel pump continues to run for about 15 seconds..no clue,am I about to run out of gas? Any clue folks??

I don't think that's an extra sensor, earlier cars had both, later cars had the functions incorporated in to just the one by the filter

Hmm,I don't recall there being 2 on my old 87 iroc...you happen to know right off hand what part of the harness the connector passes through for the lower one?
The car has 2..but they are both on top of the engine..a 2 wire and a single wire that feeds the gauge..afaik,in 89 they switched to the 3 wire unit and was relocated to the block next to oil filter?

Anything I've ever seen on earlier blocks, the one by the distributor feeds the gauge, the one by the filter is the switch incase the fp relay fails, I've never seen both on top of the motor

Hey Timmy! yeah one of mine had that on top and also on the bottom. I had to take off the bottom one cuz of the clutch. It wouldnt work on the bottom. So i just assumed there were two places for options. Having something in both is wierd tho. I wonder if they were just using it as a plug??? I am probably the wrong guy to answer for you anyway tho. although with your and others on this forums help, i have learned a ton.

I can almost guarantee someone did that for ease of reach and left the other switch in the hole as a plug down on the bottom

It works either way so it doesn't really matter how you decide to run it

Harness connector is uncut..this is original..the 85 tpi setup is a creature of its own..that's what threw me when I found the other one..

no it wasn't. I think they used it as a plug. This is from the car I just got. The 1987 5.0 car. and it had the setup that looked like yours on the top.

looking for any help I can get here folks..I started a thread on the tpi section too but want to ask here too...I am having problems with her..heres whats going on..
turn key on..fuel pump primes...crank her,she sputters for a few seconds and stalls..turn key off and the f/p continues to run for about 15-20 seconds..I don't get it..whats going on here? any clues?
Also,I have a pressure gauge hooked to the rail and she is holding a steady 40-43 psi..

Re: I'm Back..with an 85 Iroc

Could be a sign that your fuel pump is ready to die...

I'd check the ground and wires and make sure all connections are tight. Check the fuse too, it is located on a little clip next to the battery.

No,pressure is good..I have a gauge on the rail and she's holding a steady 40-43 psi..I ohm checked injectors tonight and they are all good..when I hook a test light to ground and key on I am getting a steady light and no blinking when she's cranking..if I unplug the fp relay she won't prime when key is turned on but fp starts running as soon as I start cranking..then when I turn the key off pump continues to run for about 20 seconds..I am suspecting that my ECM crapped out on me..anyone got any other ideas?
