Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
Here i am showing that you need to grind the s#!t out of the surface, (24 grit on a grinder and very low RPM). This panel bond is amazing, but you HAVE to have a rough surface to get this to bond realy well. I also am showing the importace af measuring and allignment. using dimension tape works awesome!!! so i have to come down 1-1/2 inch so therefore i use tape that wide to mark its location. also you will see the thin green line tape. I am screwing this on a curved surface, you need to keep your screw line the same, as if you have a high or a low screw in the screw line you will get warpage becouse it will pull the pannel down differently. Use a nice straight line (the green tape in my case) to put your screws in a straight line. (i hope that made sence)

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
OK... next three pics, lets see. Here you can see the 3M gun needed for the panel bond. i put a bead on both the bumper and the parts im attaching. this frontal work is getting it all solid and in shape. When i am done on the face i will take it off again and reiforce it with way more panel bond than i will ever need, but im paranoid! hehehe therefore i make sure its gona be solid. and also if i shape it i want to have enough strength if the cover gets thin. As you can see at the top of the exising cover where it meets my filler piece i will be grinding that down a bit to match the body line that is mid drift around the whole car. this is the point where it will cut back down and in twards the car on its way down. Again i feel like this is way wordy and confusing, so plese ask any questions you need to clarify what the hell im trying to say

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
just two more to show some different views. i hope in the next few days to work over the corners. OH.. i wanted to mention the screw spacing should be about two inches apart to get the panels nice and tight.

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
The rear 91-92 Z28 spoiler is RUINING it. Either lose it completely or get the back of it to match the new bodyline you're creating.
IMO those spoilers don't work with any 3rd gen, not even the cars they were originally installed on. It's like the guys that put 4th gen WS6 inspired hoods on their cars - YUCK.

I'm building a new wing now that might work with it. I'm still finishing it, but the shape is done. I designed it to be flush with the deck lid. I'll get a pic of a test fitting session soon.

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
alright, at lunch i ran home to check out the corners, i got one side cut out, so i can do the other now. here are a few pics. i think i can get the whole outer put together now, then i can take it off, make sure the inside is good, reinforce a few spots and grind to shape!

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
Sorry couldn't get a pic of the wing yet, started dumping snow.
To give you an idea, I used the stock flat firebird wing as a start, it's trailing edge is the same contour as the rear edge of the deck lid. I lifted it up about 6" off the deck, extended the side canards and the wing bends down on either side. The trailing edge is still flush with the deck lid. The rough mock up is almost done, haven't figured out the uprights yet, I'll try and get a pick soon. I'll make a mould of the plug when it's done so I'll be able to make it out of a variety of materials.

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
OMG!!!!!! this build "looks" so simple.... ITS NOT!!!! i thought i had it how i wanted it and the body line on the back pooched out like a full diaper!!! i had to cut a slit in the small upper area and tuck the pooched out area in to match the way the body line flows. anyway i have a pic of before and after. in the pic it is hard to see, but in real life it looked aweful (the first pic). it looks really really good now finaly!
Ken
p.s. how bout a small poll / oppinion here. should i shave (fill) the "pontiac" depression above the licence plate box? or leave it??????

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
Well,,, i finaly like the shape ive got. Like i said before, this one has been a bit tricky to get right. i think im going to bring a "hard" line down the corners. It will be a little soft, kind of like the tight roll at the upper back of the quarter panels. the bottom i still need to rought in. but i got the top portion how i want it. Just thought i would post some pics of the progress.

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
It sure is being a difficult one! I am finally liking how it is looking. Still up in the air if I totally like it. I hope to paint it this week. Then I can put it on and see what I think, and of course all of you guys too!!!

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
I'm modifing my rear bumper also. Converting to a free air style. As far as spoiler, it can go either way. I took mine completely off and waiting on a style I like or to not put one back on

I will if you would like. There is no front end on it tho. I'm in the process of painting the engine bay. Then putting a new motor in it. So, there isn't much to see from the windshield forward.

1991 sleeper, I think I'll have to try that one. I have three different hatches, all with diff. Fins. One of them is the base fin, maybe simple is what it needs

For the " pontiac " trim out the letters put red plexiglass behind it and use it as a 3rd break light. ..

Rear bumper kind of reminded me of the K-1 Evoluzione body kit.

I like it ... I think it will look good when finished ... That spoiler would have to go if it was mine tho
Attachment 268379
Attachment 268380
Here is a couple more pics of my spoiler I was talking about ... I still think this is the best looking factory spoiler I've seen on any 3rd gen bird

yes i think i agree, its just one i have sitting on there at the moment, i have a deck lid with window tinted with the fin like yours on it. I will put it on when i take final pics and see what we got. its actualy the one it came with, so it will even be the same color for the photos. LOVE your wheels BTW!!

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
Only thing that I could see, is that you lacked the width across the back to make the cut down bumper guard fit.
I would have just removed the rectangle section with the pontiac impression.
Split the bumper in half in the dead center.
Lined up the body lines on one side, along with the back, tacked it up.
Then went to the opposite side did the same thing.
Then made a filler section for in between the two sides on the dead rear, tacked that in.
Then used apoxy to fill in and reform the center section. Larger mounting area for the liscence plate.
Put the pontiac impression back in if desired.

Re: REAR BUMPER SHAVE
Yes I did think of that, but there is a height fitting issue also. So I was going to basically do what you said and also horizontally to (cut a plus sign) and that might have been easier looking back. Your right about the license pate box. It would be European sized.. Hehehe.
P.S. I will still paint this so you can all see. It just decided to dump a butt load of snow here, so it's gonna be a bit till I get to it.
