aftermarket tachs

well im getting my msd 6al here this weekend and i hear that you will need to buy a new tach that will work with it. even if that is not the case i do plan on buying a new one, but i was wondering what you guys felt would be considered tasteful and what would be considered tacky? im eventually getting white face gauges for my car, so a white tach might be the way to go. how hard are they as far as install? where should i mount it? i know some people mount it outside in front of the cowl, and my cowl is four inches, but im worried about someone stealing it. well, id like to hear some opinions and see some pics, thanks

Your factory tach should work fine. If in the event it doesn't the instructions tell you what you need to do to make it work.

As far as where to put it and it being tacky, that's personal opinion. I found deciding where I wanted it and mounting as being the hardest part. If you can install a stereo you can install the tach, it's pretty basic. Maybe even easier then a stereo b/c there's less wires. Sorry this pic is fuzzy, I just got the digital camera and don't know what I'm doing with it yet. My tach is behind my steering wheel in front of the factory tach(very close to the key and you can't really tilt the wheel up but it doesn't bother me any) The other gauges are under the vents in the triple gauge holder with the angle pods to tilt towards the drivers seat.

The factory tach will not work with the MSD. MSD makes a thing that will alow it to work, but if you're getting guages anyway, forget it. All Autometer, and Autoguage(made by Autometer) will work with the MSD. I have mine in the left corner by the pillar. But in a Camaro, you can put it under the center vents. I wish I could.
