getting settlement for my stolen car.. opinions please

I had my 85 camaro stolen a few weeks ago and finally I was given the news that the insurence considers it a total loss and will pay me 3000 for the car, they want 600 back if i wish to salvage it. the parts I will need to fix it will be a
right front fender, front bumper cover, hood, passenger door and steering column. after all this I will have to have the whole car painted. it has some cheap rims on it that I like, and it's a TTops car. The trans I could use in my other camaro, but who knows how heathy it is now after that joy ride, the engine i don't anything to do with :P interior is pretty good shape for the year, so should I keep it for parts or fix it up or just keep my $600??

600 bucks? Sounds like you'll have another
150-hood
75-bumper cover
125-fender
85-get column fixed, not replaced
1200-even a crappy paint job
and this is with you scabbing through yards trying to save a buck.

Sounds like they tagged the 3000 grand at just what it costs to fix it, at cost. Have you settled? Tell them you don't accept, and either you want another 500, or another car exactly like yours. How much is your insurance? Don't feel bad about insisting on more. Remember how much you pay, and how long you've been paying when you think twice about either calling them, or a lawyer. I hate insurance companies, and I hate even more when people try to retire on a fender bender by playing the lawyer game, but there's still no sense in you paying for full coverage insurance for all those years unless you can walk away with at LEAST as much as you had when the car was stolen. I know this isn't the question you asked, but I would tell them to shove the 3k up their *** , drop the car off at a dealer, get everything done, and then just hand them the bills. If you read up, I'm pretty sure (varies by state) they have to pay it, minus your deductible.

I'd personally say take the 3k. Plain and simple the cars aren't worth that much anymore. Does it have 600 bucks in parts that you want? If it does, then get it back, if it doesn't, let them have it. I wouldn't say it is worth fixing, that is why they totaled it.

Im sure if you were to part the car out, you would make your $600 back easy. Hell, the motor/heads, as ragged as they may be, are worth about that much. I say keep it. $2400 can by a very nice donor car should you decide to check the motor out. Mike

I got $3700 out of my 83 Camaro (base model) after showing the adjuster some shiny pictures and telling him how much work I had in it... Not bad for a car that I paid $3200 for when I drove it off the lot. Convince the adjuster the car was in better shape than typical thirdgens and it'll be easier to get a higher than book price.
