I have an 87 Formula, and I am having problems with my passenger side flip up headlight. Sometimes it goes up, sometimes not, sometime it goes half way then stalls then goes, somtimes it doesn't go bad down, it is very unpredictble. When you tank near the light, it sounds like the gears may not be catching all the time. Can this be fixed? or do I need a new motor set-up? If I do need a new one, am I better off to buy the entire thing or just the motor?? anyone withy any experience as far as price goes?? andy help will be great, thanks

Do a search on headlight and you'll find plenty of informative post. If the headlight motors are running but the headlight doors are not moving then you need to remove the headlight assembly from the car and repair the gear drive unit. This is really no big task. I did it on my 87 Formula and it was pretty easy. You'll find links to step by step instructions for this when you do the search. The cost was six steel ball bearings from the hardware store. A couple of bucks maybe. I would do this even if I thought it was something else. If you fix this it will not come back to trouble you in the future. The other possibility is headlight module/light switch problem. You'll find a post today that explains the function of this stuff. No need to rewrite it. Good luck.

I just fixed and installed my passanger side headlight moter. It only took $0.90 and a half hour. A BIG thanks goes to steve for all the great info on his site, and to everyone at Thirdgen.org.
