I like the marine air-horn idea personally. BUT you could take one of those chains that they use to tie down the ship with, you know the ones with like 12" links. get that and chain your car to the bike rack.
You could also somehow rig the exhaust so it wouldn't let any out (got that idea today because i parked my 1998 malibu in a snow bank and some snow got into the pipe, cars don't like that too much).
OR you could take the spark plug wires off, just 4 of them so the car might run but it will sound like crap.
Another Idea is to make a jack system that will jack up the rear wheels off of the ground, kinda like those on Nascars and Indy cars( actually I don't know which, but I've seen them), yeah the car can start, but it is hard to move if the drive wheels don't move.
If they want your car bad enough let them have it, oh yeah get good insurance if you abide by this code

Autotazer, and no they can't sue you as it is covered under the electric fence laws, and has warning signs. I have yet to get my 13 year old son to try to defeat it, the one and 2 inch long blue sparks flying off it when it goes off have him scared.
I understand it will shock the p*ss out of you even with insulated electricians gloves.

first the chances of some one taking your car are slim they might and most likely will break in if you have some thing they wan't second say some one decides lets go for a joy ride well if you have a cheep alarm or peedle brace then they will just trash your car and leave. now say they really wan't your car and you have a viper or alarm like that they will most likely be prepared and just snipp all the wires and reconnect the big yellow one and drive off laughing. same thing with the break peadle support first we don't need the break peadle to shift and if you did it is just a swich that you press pluse what about the parking break most good cars have working ones. your best bet would be to hid magnetic switches and hid the wiring in kick panels or in the wire casings not just under the dash next to the fuse box.

Just got a kinda cool, feasable, idea. This is another type of kill switch. How about some kind of switch that will only close when a laser (from a keychain laser pointer) is shot at it? You could use some sort of photo-resistor/relay combo to do it, I think. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds cool. How many theifs would figure that one out? Kinda similar to the reed switch idea, but this one would impress your friends!
As to the problem of hiding a ignition cutout switch: won't most thieves look for it in a place under the dah, by the fuse panel, under the seat, etc....
Why not just mount the switch in the console around the gauges where a rear defrost switch or fog light switch is, and just label it fog lights or rear defrost? If a thief is in a hurry, he sure isn't going to check if you really have those options or not!!

I have been using the removable grant steering wheel. Someone smashed my passenger side window realized they couldn't take my stereo with no faceplate nor the car with no steering wheel. I found it in the lot with the alarm wailing and all the change gone from the ash tray!

Hi This keeps your car yours. The only way to steel it is to tow it. check this web site out A steel steering column!! why did'nt GM put these in the cars in the first place. I have to guess they like cars being stolen.... Then you have to buy a new car. http://www.steadfastcorp.com/steadfast.html

A friend of mine has a high decibel siren hooked up to the inside of his vehicle. The siren is hooked up to his alarm. It has its own power source so that it cant be disabled if the thief disables the alarm. The only way to disable the siren is through the remote. If you loose the remote then you might be SOL. The siren itself is hidden and very hard to get to. The thief would probably go deaf trying to find the siren. Ive heard it, and its almost unbearable even 10 feet away from his car. You can get this done where ever they do custom electrical work for autos. As for the price, its kinda steep. All depends on the person working on your car. Could run between $200 to $400. But then you have to think, how much is your car worth to you.

Any of you Guys heard of a "decoder" or Black box I once heard it called??
I had My camaro in a well lit parking lot next to an office WITH securty... I also have a DEI Alarm wich a lot are made or designed by DEI and peolpe think that their different but their all the same in esence...but anyway I locked my car with the Alarm and armed it... when I came back The alarm was off both doors were unlocked *250* cd and my check book were stolen NO damage...
I was courious cause the alarm didnt make an extra beep like it had went off..
well I went to The place that installed it and the owner of 8 years (also a good friend) told me that on the black market they have these types Decoders that will randomly run threw the Different possible combinations that you alarm unit is looking for to disarm and unlock the doors..
Any way that was the onlt thing that I could come up with .. it was like someone just turned off my alarm and opened the door
The sad thing was that I have a top of the line Kenwood kcd-x911 cd player worth say $600+ and didnt even bother trying
Just thought I would put my 2 cents in

JCWhitney offers a steel colum wrap for around $70.00 that will take care of some one "chipping" your colum. Leave your doors unlocked, I can almost guarntee that will save you from a broken window or door lock removed. If they want in they will get in. Just don't leave the cd face or valuables in the car. Shave door handles and disconnect the in side handle cables. Summit offers a remote door kit for around $100.00 part#via-80158. NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION stickers. Fuel cut off is a good idea. I had a removable steering wheel on my 78TA but I could leave it in the trunk, I think if I go that way on my 87TA I will put it in the spare tire compartment, most thieves won't spend to much time on one car if you frustrate them. Just some more ideas.

$200-$400 for the siren?! I'm sorry, but your friend got ripped off, unless you're talking about the entire alarm system. You can get a siren for the inside of your car, a DEI one even, for about $35 bucks and no honest installer would charge more than $50 to add that onto an alarm install. They're known more commonly as "pain generators", BTW.
If I weren't so adverse to external decorations of any kind, I think an NRA or shooting sports sticker would be one nice deterrent. Some news program I saw a while back showed that the number one deterrent for house burglars is an NRA sticker on the window.

Most people steal cars by towing them. Its pretty easy to take the drive shaft off. Actually, it has been clocked at 5 min. Thats not alot of time. Think about it. When is the last time you seen a towtruck hauling a car down the road, and wondered if the car was stolen?
I seen this real cool thing on TV once, what it was, was a bullet proof, locking mechanizim that attached to your brake pedal. The only way you could get it off the break pedal was with a welding torch, no amount of hacking could take it off. It seemed pretty cool.
Now, if you car were to be stolen, A lowjack could help. You can pinpoint the exact location of your car no matter where it is. Its a GPS transmitter. Not sure how much it costs, but if you are that concerned about your car, it wouldn't matter how much it was.

I have the best anti theft device out. in africa i think they have an alarm that if someone sets it off it it sprays 10' flames out of the sides id hate to be someone who just bumped the car to hard
Pioneer has the DFS alarm that plays a very high pitched two tone siren through your interior speakers. Its armed when you take your faceplate off and its volume is adjustable. You hook up the head unit to your interior dome light and when the door opens you have predetermined timer to put the faceplate back on or put the key in the ignition. It has a blinking light under the faceplate location as another deterrant for theives.
If they're smart then they can just put a screwdriver (probably the same one used to break the lock) in there and shift with that.
I've had that happen to me too! Some teenage punks (in their daddy's Navigator, ugh) parked next to me, one had the window open, I hit the panic button by mistake, "wow, that POS has an alarm??" I kept my mouth shut, just stared him down, took down his plates just in case they tried something stupid. Idiots.

This guy parked near me yesterday heard me disarm the car and said, "gee, I didn't think cars that old had security alarms." ?? Uh...yeah, it even has a radio and air conditioning...

First get a tazer system...
Second
whatever alarm you get.. proximity is a good thing.. After that ground it to somewhere near the engine.. not the body.. many people do this and it's WRONG... all it takes is a small charge with 2 wires on the body to knock the system out.. so don't ground it to your body...

Being a new owner of a mint GTA, theft is a concern. Thanks for all the fantisic suggestions on how to protect my car. One trick that I use is to disconnect the coil wire. The way I see it the thief will spend lots of time inside the car looking for a kill switch that does not exist. Time is the enemy of the car thief and the longer it takes to defeat your system the better chance you have of keeping your car. In addition, the would be thief does not want to get out of your car once in it. At night the thief would need a flashlight to reconnect the coil wire. My .02 cents.

Shaved door handles. The best theft detterant. How are they going to get into your car with no door handles? They can crawl through the window but i doubt it. With shaved door handles and that magnet kill switch, thats a pretty good system right there. I also like the one about the siren inside the car, that would keep people from stealing radio ect, they might be able to pick up some lose change but thats it. When i get my project car heres my plan for security
-Shaved door handles with the remote opener(will also deactivate the inside alarm motion sensors)
-Magnet kill switch
-And the alarm inside the car
With this there is really no way to steal the car, first you would have a hard time getting inside, then you couldnt sit down for 2 seconds before going insane because of the alarm, and then even if you found a way around that you couldnt start the car! I recommend this to everyone, might be take some work though. Might also want to add a regular alarm system there too, that would be activated by motion sensors in the seats, same as the inside alarm. Just so you know when someones in your car.

Let's think this through..... Let's say you left the windows down on your car with shaved doow handles. You're right. They probably wouldn't crawl through the window.
Instead, they'd casually reach down and pull the interior door latch. Even if the windows weren't down, they don't take much to break.

I got a red flashing led and mounted it near the power window controls,it looks like I have a alarm system,I have stickers on my windows too, also tinted windows and my rear security roll to hide my goodies

To protect your car from the thief you got to know how they steal your car.
It is highly unlikey that they will tow your car away it takes to long. Your car can be stolen in under 60 seconds heres how its done.
with a screwdriver your window is popped out of the weather stripping and pulled outward, the thief then sticks his arm in and unlocks the door or for you shaved handle folks opens the door from the inside. The window does not have to be broken.
again with the screw driver they break the left hand side of the ignition lock to get at starter bar and varoom there off. for non vats.
vats adds one more step. they break the passanger side dash to get at the vats module tie the wires together and then varoom,
If you have an aftermarket alarm do yourself a favor and remove the sticker that says what kind of alarm you have.... your just tipping off the thief on how to defeat your alarm.
move and secure your vats module.

I always thought about a previously suggested idea. If you take an OEM switch for your driving lights like on the TA and hook up a kill switch there. I know my 87 had 2 extra sockets where you could put one of these, it would be so obvious that no one would ever consider using it to start the car.

Well my uncle did this to his 2nd gen camaro. He lived near cleveland, OH lots of theft problems there. He hooked it up so that if u stook the key in the ignition and turned it, the car did nothing, u had to put the key in and turn it and while the key was still turned put in the lighter. Not many thiefs would be that smart to use the lighter. Also he said it is very cheap and very easy to set it up and if anyone would need to know i could ask him.

FrostsZ28: I think that the lighter idea is a really good one.
I just think that posting the information online would not be a good idea though. Just a what if...what if car thieves look online for this and find out how to do it.
If you could talk to your uncle and then email the information to me, that would be much appreciated.

I always thought that if you let the thief start the car, it would run for a few seconds, and then stall, and it would not re-start unless you pushed some button.

My car had been broken into 4 times, once they stole my dirty dishes from my lunch at work. It has been stolen 2 times, But the fuel cut off worked great. One of the guys the second theft was caught. Now I forgot to tell you all I was parked in a church parking lot at the time.

The seat belt thing was a good idea! Not only would a thief not put on his seat belt before starting the car but it reminds you to buckle up and be safe. Where I used to live, the idiots there wouldn't even lock their doors! and my friend and I would steal ashtray change for a pack of smokes. 1 time my friend and I scored a box of tools! Cleaned up my life now! Oh ya, people just have no decentcy if they steal a car from church!!! *** will have his way with them, though!

I went to visit a friend last weekend in el paso...He owns a 94 Chevy Silverado...I asked to borrow the truck and he hands me the keys with a smirk on his face...I put the key in the ignition and turn it and...HONK!...that's right! the damn thing starts honkin! It wont start or clik or anything..just straight honkin!...I had never seen that before so i was like..What the heck? Did I do something wrong? All the while my buddy is laughing his butt off at me...He comes over to the truck turns on the headlights then the highbeams..He tells me to start it...I turn the key, and VROOM! it starts right up! I thought that was pretty neat...He just has to turn on the lights to start it...I liked the idea, but the problem is, he bought the truck like that, and doesn't know how the previous owner rigged it...anybody have a clue? I think it's an effective system...could this be done to our 'Maros?

gee i read these posts and it makes me feel like im parinoid. i have the usual things, viper remote start/alarm, keyless entry stuff. but i have switchs up top *i have that roof console* and i took out the #'s part at put 2 switches in there. 1 for the starter and fuelpump. but i have another switch hidden in the car to cut all power to the car.
ok guys, i can see from above that i already posted a litte bit, anyways,
i did get the alarm,
DEI 6500
Dual Zone sensor, so it gives a warning if theyre next to , and the xecond a hand goes in, off the alrm goes.
PIEZOS!! 117 decibel two of these in the interior and i fear it going off when im inside and then a 127 DB horn in the hood, these TINGLE!
Battery back up, so if they cut the ground the alarm has no probs.
Window control modual, doors, trunk, start, engine rev, one touch windows, ETc,. ETc, ETc.
Anyways.
here's the best,
Tinted windows, shaved is soso, it just looks more intresting till the thief relizes that somewhere youve placed a switch to manualy pop them.
the window shade is a good investment as well, heres mine
A GOOD quality alarm, ok, i hate best buy, i used to work for them, but theyre alarms is what i recommend, DEI!!!
and if you want the cheaper route, get some used, and some fresh 9MM shells and always leave them in the pass seat and floor.
NRA stickers on the home are the best theft deterence.
umm... too early, waaaaaaaaay to early,
cant think, you guys have questions just ask...
