Paint help needed
I've got a few questions for anyone who knows about painting. I need real answers, though, not guesses, please.
My dad & I plan to paint my car this spring. We have a HVLP gun and a place to paint it. I'm on a budget, and I'm just trying to make the car look good - it' was a Texas car, so the clear is shot and the red is starting to fade, but it's rust free. I'm trying to make it "presentable" without breaking the bank. I am planning on using Single Stage with hardener, but not planning to clear coat it (again due to cost). Someday, when I have more money, I will probably do a complete color change, but for now, I'm keeping it RED.
First question, Acrylic Enamel or Acrylic Urethane? Which and why?
2nd question, I've heard both "use a flex additive for bumpers" and also "it's not needed anymore." What's your experience with bumpers?
3rd If I use Urethane, do I need to use make-up air, or can I safely use a quality respirator filter (3M or something)?
Last, does anyone have any experience using TCP Global's Restoration Shop product line (below)?

Like I said, please add your 2c *only* if you have experience painting.

Re: Paint help needed
1. Urethane. Much more durable, better gloss holdout & easier to maintain.
2. I never use flex additive - use a quality primer, sealer & there shouldnt be any issues.
3. Spend the money & buy 3M respirator (solvent).
Painter for over 15 years.

Re: Paint help needed

Regarding the respirator, should I get the "organic vapor" filter?
Re: Paint help needed
Yes, get the organic vapor filter. The toxicity is in the hardner, not the paint itself. Both of the paints use the same hardner just in different ratios.
FWIW, it is true that the urethane paint is best; however, just going by the price, I would say that the quality of either of those paints won't be much to brag about. Either of these will oxidize pretty quickly. I almost always use the flex additive, but with inexpensive paint such as this I wouldn't bother with the added expense.
