How to tell?

Going to do some body work and paint the car this summer.
I really don't want to spend the time stripping the entire car down, sealing, priming, sanding... sanding.... sanding... I hate sanding.

Most of the car is in great shape, only a coulpe little dings, A pillars need some work but the cowl is good, rockers are good, a little bubble in one of the wheel wells... Pretty much it.

So, I'd like to do spot repair, scuff the current paint and then spray.
My only issue is the car received a spray what looks to be about 5 years ago, and probably with single stage... I want to go Base/Clear.

Are there any methods to check what I have on the car? Or am I destined to strip it right down?

Sounds like lots of sanding. No way around it.
