Ditto on the t-top bar, and I believe I have a really clean one in my stash of parts.

Re: Plates on top of t-top center piece

I replaced my rusty one and bought a refurbished and repainted, very clean replacement for $117.75 + shipping from Third Gen Bargain Barn:

I think I bought their last one as they are currently out of stock. Maybe they will get a couple more in or you can find one here in the classifieds but it probably wont be refurbished completely.

Hawks Third Gen has a stainless steel one that will never rust but its a lot of moolah: $302.50 + shipping.

Hawks is too rich for my blood on most everything and my car will be garaged 90% of the time now anyway so im not worried about new rust.

When you do replace it just be VERY careful getting the rubber weatherstripping pulled out and away from the old one. Pull ONLY enough of the seals to get the crossbar out.

Depending on the condition, you may also need a set of new weatherstripping. Do a search they are available easily. The weatherstripping tucks in underneath the bottom rail lip and underneath the top side of the crossbar. You'll see when you start removing the old bar. Don't pull hard or rip it or create any holes.

The bar itself is held on by 2 screws front and 2 back - one on each side. There is a true front and back direction also - the screw holes are different front vs back. Just compare the old rusty one direction with your new one when replacing. I marked my new crossbar underneath with notes with a silver sharpie marker just to help my tired old brain get the direction correct and to give someone a laugh when and if they ever replace the replacement.

And after you have the new crossbar installed seal the crap out of everything with black waterproof silicone caulking on both sides of the bar along the top sides where the weatherstripping goes and under the loose weatherstripping you pulled back or you will have multiple leaks.

Give the silicone a day or so to dry in the shade and then water test it with a hose. Good luck.
