Hood bracing is coming off

Ok, so I have a 1983 Z28 and just looked the other day and the underside bracing is separating from the top of the hood. The insulation is gone, so I can see these braces clearly and they are slowly coming off. Whats the best way to fix this? It seems like it isnt metal underneath, but a yellowish substance... maybe fiberglass? The hood looks stock. Im the 2nd owner.

Now heres the odd parts that are probably better suited for the "History" section. My car is pretty much all original. If this is an SMC hood, it should be functional and should have come on a CFI car... BUT my car has a quadrajet and the flaps are non-functional and appear to never have been functional. Also looking at the history/tech specs, it says that only the CFI cars have the twin mufflers, which mine also has. Do I have a mutt or did GM do some strange things?

Re: Hood bracing is coming off

my '82,originally carb, came with non-functional SMC hood-I have heard of SMC hoods on carb cars into 1984,though see a lot of steel hoods on '84 z28s.The bracing underneath is also SMC material-it is coming loose on mine too, hood is off for the repair and I plan to use epoxy for the fix.Fiberglass resin does not stick well to SMC material I found out years ago...MY '82 had twin mufflers also-might be a z28 only thing. I will post on here how my hood repair goes-also have to fix a small hole caused by a 5500 RPM fan belt breakage...

Re: Hood bracing is coming off

As far as the mufflers and whatnot, thats all info I read in the tech section here.

It says under 1982... https://www.thirdgen.org/1982-chevy-camaro
The CFI cars in 82 and 83 had an exhaust that had two mufflers connected by a pipe instead of a regular cross-flow dual outlet muffler that was used in later years.

and under 1983... https://www.thirdgen.org/1983-chevy-camaro
All Z28 hoods were switched from SMC to steel except the LU5 air induction hood. This would be the last year for this functional induction hood, only available on the Z28, which still featured opening flaps for a ram air-like effect.

so thats where my confusion came from. I will have to try to come up with something to fix it as I cant really just take the hood off, this car is my daily driver and I live in an apartment. I dont think they would appreciate me not having a hood on my car. Im thinking epoxy with some additional supports to hold the bracing up while the epoxy cures. Like I said, Im not 100% sure it is SMC yet either. I am going to test it with a magnet tonight to be sure first.

Ok, the hood is in fact SMC. Any ideas on the best way to repair it?
